More than thirty international artists and artist groups urge visitors to the exhibition into new perspectives on environmental issues, questions of identity and discussions about the ever-present social-media. What does a human hair sound like? Which sight will capture your imagination? Who sets the rules in the digital world?

The ISEA2010 RUHR presents outstanding contemporary works of international media art and the current position of artistic entanglements with science and technology. It offers an overview of the most pressing issues and topics in media art. Divided between the cities of Dortmund, Duisburg and Essen are shown 29 works from 37 artists representing 16 countries in total.

Most of these works will be presented in the Dortmund Museum for Art and Cultural History. The works engage with topical themes such as climate change and the deconstruction of identity concepts, and revel in alchemical experiments.

The 11th edition of FILE – Electronic Language International Festival – takes place this year at centro cultural fiesp – ruth cardoso, Brasil, from july 27th to august 29th, 2010. The programme occupies the art gallery of sesi-sp, the fiesp space, the theater and the mezzanine of the cultural center that hosts the exhibition with interactive installations, games, machinimas, internet artworks, performances and workshops.

Media Art shows how to “soften” the rigidity of technology functionality and to create an environment of creativity and artistic thinking.

The new exhibition in the Ars Electronica Center Linz pays tribute to the creativity, courage and inventiveness of those men and women who have totally committed their energies, abilities and knowledge to a vision of the future. This exhibition surveys a 200-year time span: looking back at what people about a century ago anticipated for this day and age, and showcasing what contemporary thinkers foresee 100 years from now.

As proxies standing for all the visionaries and trailblazers who have worked on their respective „futures“ over the course of humankind‘s history, French writer, illustrator and caricaturist Albert Robida (1848–1926) and Belgian visionary Paul Otlet (1868–1944) occupy this exhibition‘s spotlight.

Пројекат „Ризом града” представља естетизацију дигиталног уобличавања просторне мреже културног идентитета града Београда. Аутори и учесници пројекта истражују и приказују урбани идентитет кроз субјективно поимање структуре града. Стварањем индивидуалног осећаја простора, на одређеним културолошким пунковима у Београду, уметници трансформишу урбане пејзаже у сплет уметничких, естетских, психолошких, политичких и географских разлика и постављају их у виртуелну мапу света Google Earth. Они формирају базу података – културолошку форму као листу ставки која се реферира на одређену појаву (културолошке пунктове града Београда) без одређеног наратива.
Термин Ризом је преузет из теорије ризома, филозофа Жил Делеза и психоаналитичара Феликса Гатарија. Ризом је модел приказивања света, просторна мрежа, мноштво тачака које су у мећусобној вези, где се све може довести у везу са свим. Ризом искључује централну тачку, средиште, хијерархијску структуру и метафора је за вишезначност, ширење у простору и ширење значења.

Симбол града је сложенији симбол који пружа већу могућност изражавања тензије између геометријске рационалности и сплета људских живота. На том становишту аутори пројекта „Ризом града“ разматрају да је концепт простора утемељен у различитим врстама индивидуалних и колективних искустава. „Геометријски простор“ разликује се од друге спацијалности коју Мерло-Понти дефинише као „антрополошки простор“. Тако долазимо до појма спознајне картографије (cognitive mapping) Фредрика Џејмисона. Та когнитивна мапа не базира се на опонашању и одражавању реалности. Естетика когнитивне картографије је начин којим се друштвено спознајно уцртава индивидуални однос наспрам локалне, националне и интернационалне стварности. Такав став представља одређену врсту искуства у односу према свету, могућност властитог уписивања и сналажења артикулисањем субјективитета унутар менталне, психогеографске карте града.

Thirty-three artists will send live broadcasts from fields direct to your desktop. All works, whether video, animation, performance, sculpture or live data will be created in the field with no editing or post-production. Each broadcast will be viewed by a dispersed international audience, at office desks, in cafes, on trains and at kitchen tables.

To receive the field broadcasts go to www.fieldbroadcast.org and follow the instructions. Once you have installed the viewer application each broadcast will arrive directly to your desktop, through your internet connection, opening in a pop-up window.

Field Broadcast will be live for 24 hours a day from May 8th to May 16th. Times of individual broadcasts will not be published in advance. All broadcasts are live and will not be repeated.

Sound waves broadcast in space and captured by powerful antennas. A steamy repetition creating an environment open to different contributions, pervaded by the energies of the artists themselves, who were invited to focus their attention on those deceitful mechanisms that are always in play at the interchange between infosphere and psychosphere. Different types of data, sounds and magnetism: all these elements poetically meet in multimedia, which is here the synesthetic melting pot of experimental sound compositions. This collective, which promotes the Radio Tower Xchange project, by connecting online performances and audio art events, wants to pay homage and at the same time criticize the “broadcasting philosophies”, embodied in the “symbolism” of radio towers themselves. Technologies for sharing that are evolving towards direct transmission, not “for the audience” but “from the audience” which, thanks to WiFi networks and the multiplication of “emission points” and the simultaneous demand for those inputs, pave the way to the emergence of new systemic chains. The idea behind this event is both paying homage and a critique of the broadcasting philosophies and histories the radio towers represent, and an investigation into the evolving practice of unregulated online broadcasting. [Adam Hyde]

Data Soliloquies is a book about the extraordinary cultural fluidity of scientific data. A wide array of graphs, charts, computer models and other forms of visual advocacy have become inescapable fixtures of public science presentations, though they are often treated as if they were neutral ‘found objects’ rather than elaborate narrative constructions containing high levels of statistical uncertainty. Through a mix of essays and artworks, this witty and engaging book — the result of a collaboration between Richard Hamblyn and Martin John Callanan during their terms as writer and artist in residence at the UCL Environment Institute — examines the theatricality of scientific data display, while critiquing some of the poorly designed statistical wallpaper that surrounds so much public science debate.

From interrogating Nicolas Bourriaud’s ideas of a new age of the altermodern to the daily life of a political actitivist in the World Bank-backed last dictatorship in Europe -Belarus, You Are Here goes a way to offering a sort of field book for contemporary Europe. A continent where young artists and activists blend forms and travel in their work, living in one country while all the while subtly interrogating their home countries’ traditions and expectations. A generation has come of age in a post- Wall Europe who no longer feel obligated to answer the national questions, but instead answer to their unique personal experience, one of borderless work and travel, mediated by translation and the Internet. Such instances of artistic, intellectual and activist projects are given space in You Are Here, offering the chance to see whether such young practitioners really are writing from a freedom and plurality born in 1989 back into a new, wider and pan-European tradition in 2009.

This two-day symposium brings together scientists, artists, social scientists and policy-makers to explore scientific controversy from an interdisciplinary perspective. From esoteric arguments over the structure of the universe to highly charged public controversies around the use of stem cells, Eye of the Storm will touch on brilliance and ego, dissent and whistle-blowing, big science, high finance, deviant science, the reliability of knowledge and the legislation of uncertainty.

encoding_experience/ is the first of a series of exhibitions inspired by the ways in which artists are embracing critical, hands on interventive strategies towards the understanding of, and experimentation with media. The artists in the show open up issues of privacy, piracy and control, paradigms that are deeply embedded into technology and the way technology is designed. Most of the artists favour a collaborative, socio-centric approach to their work. They have an agenda about thinking through questions such as; Where does the technology come from? What is the real use of a computer? What are the social issues around regular access to domestic machines i.e. game consoles, home stereos and digital cameras. How do we use and question systems that tirelessly reproduce and augment environments, image and sound?

Actively engaging with conceptual concerns, DaDa-esque notions of performance, hacking and intellectual property; encoding_experience presents an insight into how electronic media and craft knowledge operates in current art practice, not only in terms of its functionality, but also in regards to artists who have a critical approach towards the politics, aesthetics and ecconomies coded into these systems.
